Chief Johnson – Chief Marketing Officer, CMNTY Culture RCRDS

Chief Johnson is Chief Marketing Officer and Partner of CMNTY Culture RCRDs, a forward-thinking black-owned label dedicated to the inclusion, protection, and advocacy of its artists. Johnson launched this year-old company alongside GRAMMY award-winning artist Philip Lawrence and “curator of culture” A&R Executive Malik Rasheed as a safe space for artists to create. Since inception, CMNTY Culture RCRDs has signed two marquee artists, singer/songwriter and force behind the viral sensation “Rascal” RMR and Black-ish actress Katlyn Nichol.

Previously a signed recording artist, Chief learned the inner workings of the industry and uses his experience to help drive the success of all the artists he works with. He was an early pioneer to both the global streetwear boom and social media music marketing through Myspace, leading his Hip-Hop group to becoming one of the biggest on the platform at that time and landing a record deal with Universal Records/Fontana.

Chief took his marketing expertise to streetwear brands Crooks & Castles and Young & Reckless where he led marketing operations and research efforts to help build brand awareness. Most recently, he served as Senior Manager of Entertainment Marketing for Puma. In this role, Chief oversaw Puma’s programming, partnership, and ambassador signings; covered the company’s Cultural and Lifestyle curation; led philanthropy and community events; and launched various Puma and industry-wide events. In addition to this, he oversaw Puma’s men’s music and entertainment initiative, securing and driving brand partnerships with some of the most notable names in music like A Boogie, Gunna, Yo Gotti, and Nipsey Hussle. The talented marketing executive was recognized for his innovative thinking and extensive experience by being named one of Billboard’s Top 100 R&B/Hip Hop Power Players in 2018.

Chief currently resides in L.A. where he volunteers his time by mentoring youth and young professionals.
